Profile
Khalid Jassim is a Qatari sports broadcaster on Al Kass and presenter of the programme Al Majlis. His determined approach and distinctive interview style established him as a prominent figure in Arab sports media.
Biography
Born in 1974 into a stable, traditional family, he imagined many possible futures as a child: officer, doctor, engineer, merchant and teacher. His father was the strongest influence. Their close relationship developed Khalid’s independence and taught kindness, generosity and respectful treatment of others. He also inherited ambition, resilience and a determination to establish a purposeful place in society.
His father encouraged him to enter commerce, a demanding profession that he associated with independence, leadership and freedom. He honoured that wish while also pursuing his own ambition in media, moving between broadcasting and business as opportunities developed. From childhood, he wanted to contribute rather than pass unnoticed: his aim was to build a recognised role, serve society and fulfil his potential.
He once planned to study dentistry in the United States, but an unpleasant experience with a dentist caused him to reconsider. That decision ultimately helped redirect him towards media.
Qatar Television gave him his first substantial broadcasting experience. Al Jazeera then opened a markedly different professional stage, after which he returned to Qatar Television on secondment.
He joined Al Jazeera Sports in 2003, where training and demanding assignments increased his confidence and skill. Al Kass later became the institution most closely associated with his public identity, presenting him in a new format and bringing him nearer to sports audiences.
“Al Majlis” became the defining programme of his career. Officials provided the resources and trust needed to develop it, and he responded with a deep sense of loyalty to the channel. The institution became more than a workplace: it offered stability, recognised his abilities and gave them room to grow.
At each professional stage, people recognised potential that he did not always see in himself. Their confidence, together with his diligence, sincerity and continual effort to improve, helped him earn the support of channel leadership.
His interviewing style and individual presence brought leading sporting figures to the screen and attracted a large audience. “Al Majlis”, broadcast by Al Kass in a traditional majlis setting, realised a particular ambition by allowing him to speak face to face with influential figures in world sport, including Lionel Messi.
The programme’s prominence did not diminish his regard for other successful work, including “The Third Half” on Al Jazeera Sports and “Douri.net” on Qatar Television.
After spending his youth in commerce in accordance with his father’s wishes, he had not expected to enter a completely different profession. A long-dormant interest eventually gave him the confidence to take a difficult but decisive step towards his own ambition. He left commerce for media, accepting a major change in both the nature of his work and, in his view, its financial rewards.
Moving from self-employment into a salaried institution initially felt restrictive. Sports media was also intensely competitive, and he encountered efforts to obstruct his progress. He concentrated on constructive work and avoided disputes that could distract from it. Patience and the belief that resistance often accompanies visible success helped him continue.
As pressure increased, so did his determination to improve. He refused provocation, accepted personal sacrifice and kept working. Support from people including Ayman Jada was also important to his progress.
